A Letter from the Pastor

As a church, we have been described as the “church with the red roof”, the “Pizza Hut” church, and the “Red Roof Inn.” I guess by now, you can figure out we have a red roof on our sanctuary. But we also have a white cross. And I believe that says more about who we are as a family of faith. We believe God sent His Son into our lives to bring us a multitude of gifts and blessings. And the first gift Jesus brings is the Good News. The relationship we have with our God is filled with health and new life and peace.

“Christus Victor” literally means Christ is the Victor over death and the grave and all that would keep is in darkness. We no longer have to fear God, for Jesus’ death on the cross has given us freedom and forgiveness from our sins. We have been given freedom from all that would hold us captive, and all that keeps us from being who God wants us to be. And what are we to be? We are to be lovers of God and disciples and followers of Jesus. And what are we to do and how are we to live? We show God’s love as Christ has shown his love for us. We live for others. We serve others in love and we proclaim the wonderful good news of God’s kingdom. We strive and work for justice in a world that is broken, and we do so, through words and deeds.

Others will be introducing you to our many groups and ministry programs at Christus Victor. But I want to share with you two dreams that are being realized. We have a group of people who are working on the details of creating additional space for our people and programs. There are more hoops to jump through, but we hope to be building in the near future.
